Gear Review – Vigilante Downcore Puff Jacket – A Snow Travel Favourite
Reviewed by Snow Travel Magazine
Vigilante have been good enough to provide us their latest Men’s jacket, the Downcore Puff for review and one of the coolest things about the Vigilante Downcore is not how warm and dry it keeps you (note: it does both in spades) but rather its unbelievable compacting ability. I own plenty of snow jackets and never have I seen a jacket of this size squeeze down into its very own travel pillow – a seriously cool feature that’ll save you a kilo or two on your baggage allowance and provide you with a pillow for the flight.
But how does the Downcore Puff Jacket perform in the wet and in the cold, more specifically in wintery conditions? The answer is very well and its important to add that the jacket is both water-resistant and packing a punch when it comes to insulation thanks to its 80% down, 20% feather stuffing. The sleeve cuffs are also specifically designed for a trip to the snow with full snow sleeve cuffs at the wrists. Other cool features (and something which is a must for the budding skier or snowboarder) includes pockets which the Downcore puff has plenty of including stash pockets, waterproof hand warmer pockets, a hidden chest pocket and another hidden pocket in the hood along with a handy lens cleaner to keep your goggles crystal clear.
Overall I’m a wrap for the Vigilante Downcore Puff Jacket, not only does it do what it’s designed to which is keep you warm and dry, but I also love the travel pillow feature. As a snowboarder who travels a lot to Japan and elsewhere in the chase for endless pow one of the constant issues I face is keeping my baggage under the baggage allowance, being able to stuff your jacket into the travel pillow lets you save a kilo or two and gives you a pillow at the same time.
